MEXICO CITY; THE GREAT, THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY AND THE AMAZING

June 5, 2016

Fabulous fruit and produce    ………….   It must be disinfected before you can eat it

Amazing and interesting neighborhoods to stroll around………the sidewalks are so potholed and uneven it is dangerous to walk on them.

Amazingly loving and nice people  (gosh they kiss you whenever you meet)………I struggle with any communication because of my lack of Spanish.

An interesting array of foods and treats……….most of them are too hot for me to handle.

There are roads all over the city that will take you anywhere and parking available when you get there……….they are the craziest drivers anywhere and rules do not seem to exist.  Everyone changes lanes indiscriminately and someone in the far right or left hand lane will suddenly pull across 4 lanes of traffic in front of everyone to make a turn from the lane that was farthest from them.  I must add that I have not seen an accident yet and the Mexican’s are usually understanding if you get you nose out fast enough.

All in all, I really love this country and feel privileged to be here.

Our assignment here as missionaries has been and continues to be very challenging.  Jim is on call 24/7 and must take his phone wherever he goes.  It’s a bit like when he first started his practice.  We’re trying to update all the information for new incoming mission presidents and their wives.  They need to know the best doctors and hospitals to send their missionaries to and when to send them in the first place.  The doctors before us did a great job in compiling this information, but it is constantly changing and needs to be updated.  Out of the 34 missions in the Mexico area, 17 of them are getting new presidents in July.  Kind of overwhelming.  We also need to review and approve all the health sections of all the missionary applications from Mexico.  I do my best to help Jim in all of the above.  I’m not sure whether I help or just get in the way.

However, in spite of all the work we manage to get in a lot of play and new adventures.

Just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how all was going. You've probably heard that it is in the high 90's and 100 today I hear. Seemed hotter yesterday, but I wasn't in the yard working today as I was yesterday along with 4 hours of soccer games! We had a special stake conference today with Pres. Nelson as our visitor. Very high security, and Wayne was on security duty so his kids got to sit on the very front row. As Pres. Nelson left, he stopped and shook their hands and hugged Annabelle. Shauna and I were in the choir and were so thrilled for them. He stopped to acknowledge a few others, but nothing like that. What a lovely remembrance. Our choir was thrilling, and we sang 15 minutes of prelude and one number during the conference. Pres. Nelson had wonderful stories, great sense of humor, and was tender in his appreciation of those participating. He stressed Sabbath Day observance and teaching families in righteousness. He was in your stake Friday night which was broadcast to 7 stakes in Oregon. Inspiring day for sure. Love hearing all that you are doing and happy that you are loving the work, although much is required of you. I know the Lord is blessing you.
Loves, Ann P
